The first thing that you need to do is get yourself some matches. Using a lighter, while effective in lighting up the cigar, isn't the best way to go as the oils in it may damage the taste. Matches can easily be bought very cheaply from just about any shop you can find.
Before you actually like the cigar you need to make sure you cut it. It is the closed end that needs to be cut and this should be roughly 1/8 of an inch from the end. Ideally this will be where the curved end meets the straight main section of the cigar.
When you come to actually like the cigar you need to put the flame as close to the end as possible without actually touching it. Using your fingers rotate the cigar around the flame so that the entire end is covered and begins to burn. Unlike smoking a cigarette and this can take up to 20 seconds or longer depending upon the type of cigar you choose.
As soon as you know that the supplies that you need to remove it from your mouth and examine it properly. You will need to make sure that the foot of the cigar is burning easily so that it doesn't start to burn more quickly down one side. If it is not burning evenly then you should likely blow on the area that is not burning properly in order to speed it up. Do this for as long as you need until the entire cigar is properly alight.
